ASF is pleased to announce that Tom Cheney will be joining us as Communications Manager starting on Feb. 1. The high quality of his work has been seen in the Atlantic Salmon Journal on a number of occasions. His features with photographer Nick Hawkins are some of the most memorable in recent years including Sons of the River (Fall 2017) which took gold for best magazine feature at the Atlantic Journalism Awards, Where Silver Outweighs Gold (Spring 2020) and most recently Clearcut Consequences (Winter 2020).
Tom holds a PhD in political science from York University and has developed a broad skill set including photography, video editing, and social media.
He is a passionate salmon conservationist and recently spoke in the United Kingdom at the invitation of the Atlantic Salmon Trust to help launch their Missing Salmon Alliance project. Tom will be based out of Halifax.
