Locals Say Salmon Escaped From Hermitage Bay Farm
August 5, 2018 |
People on the south coast claim that thousands of salmon may have escaped from a fish farm in Hermitage Bay.
One person who has a cabin in the area says it appears to have been a large escape of salmon at North West Cove at the end of the bay. He says fish number in the thousands and have been schooling and jumping. Several people who have contacted VOCM News say the public is not yet being allowed in to take the fish.
Escaped salmon can pose a threat to wild stocks. Itís one reason why some people are opposed to open-pen fish farming as escaped fish end up in rivers and bays.
