Alien species pose risk to Atlantic salmon Alien species introduced to Atlantic salmon rivers pose a very real hazard to wild Atlantic salmon. This largemouth bass, first ever found in Atlantic Canada, was identified by ASF Researchrs at the Magaguadavic River fishway. Here it is examined by Dr. Fred Whoriskey, before it was sent to provincial authorities for further study. Other alien or 'exotic' species that could harm Atlantic salmon include pike, smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, and muskellunge.
