The lateral line is an extremely sensitive organ detecting even faint disturbances in the waters surrounding the Atlantic salmon, and giving it the ability to react quickly to things happening even some considerable distance away from it. In a world which can be difficult to see in, or which is dark, this ability is invaluable. |
