Low Salmon Stock Hits Wallets as Well as Rivers

Concerns over low salmon returns in Newfoundland rivers are not only environmental in nature, but economic too.

Salmon angling generates some big money every summer, but because of low returns, salmon angling is now a “hook and release” activity.

The Environment Resources Management Association’s GM, Fred Parsons, uses the Exploits River as an example.

He says they’re looking at a value of $8 to $10-million dollars generated from salmon angling activity on the Exploits.
