Gregory Hammond - Genetic variation within and between "wild" and synthetic populations of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) from New Brunswick
Year: 1996
Preliminary analyses show that for salmon in the Magaguadavic River, progeny from matings between wild x aquaculture and aquaculture x aquaculture have had good survival, and contributed significantly to the gene pool of the river. The introgression of new alleles over the years has caused the existing population to be genetically distinct from the one present before the aquaculture industry. Implications of interactions over the years have yet to be fully understood and warrant further study. Hammond96.pdf
