The T. B. "Happy" Fraser Award was inaugurated in 1975 to honor Happy Fraser. Past President and General Manager of The Atlantic Salmon Association ASF Canada), in recognition of his many important contributions to Atlantic salmon conservation during his lifetime.
"Happy" Fraser spent most of his working life in forestry, first on Anticosti Island and later at different locations along the Québec North Shore. Along the way he became a champion of conservation causes in aid of the Atlantic salmon. Few people were better informed on Atlantic salmon issues or were as ready to do battle on behalf of the salmon than Happy. In the mid 1960's Happy Fraser became concerned by the rapidly developing high seas salmon fishery near Greenland, and he was quick to recognize the potential danger of this fishery to Canadian rivers, and the first to sound the alarm. Each year since 1975 the T. B. "Happy" Fraser Award has been presented to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution over a period of time to practical conservation of the Atlantic salmon. |
